Work-life balance is a term that is being used these days more frequently than ever. The employees’ expectations are rightfully increasing towards their companies to understand the importance of managing the imposed workload. While many companies claim to be supporters of work-life balance, their actions speak otherwise. There remains an outdated approach in such companies to make their workforce slog and get as many work hours from them as possible. Not only is this an ethically questionable practice, but it is also a counterproductive way of managing an organisation. Here are the most important reasons why companies must push for work-life balance themselves.

Promotes employee loyalty  

One of the biggest problems that companies have faced since the beginning of time is the rapid turnover rates of employees. It can be rather difficult to get loyal employees who stick around for a longer time, but company policies are very much at fault for this turnover as well. Whether your company pays good salaries to the employees or not, no employee will remain in your company for long if you don’t care for their work-life balance. But if they observe that you don’t make them slog for long hours and respect their life beyond work, it will be the ultimate incentive for them to remain loyal to your organisation for a longer time (besides a decent salary, of course)!   

Creates a healthy and active workforce  

There have been cases where the employees’ health has been affected due to the stress caused by an overload of work or an unfriendly work environment. It is the duty of the leadership to ensure that your workplace is not the cause of an employee’s ill health, even if they have a lesser capacity to deal with stress. Acknowledging their need for a good work-life balance will solve most of these problems on its own. Giving them a decent space after a day of hard work and not disturbing them during their personal times will keep them physically healthy and mentally sound. No organisation can thrive whose workforce is not in a good space of health.  

Increases productivity  

The age-old mindset of extracting as much work from an employee as possible is perhaps the most counterproductive mood. Instead of working more, an employee who is made to stay beyond their work hours is likely to produce even fewer results. Working under stress can bring no productivity; however, giving them a decent space before and after work will make employees feel more motivated to come to work and excel. It is a great way to channel their focus during work hours and yield more results instead of making them work for long hours with zero focus and motivation.  

Contributes in long-term team building  

A great team can only form if the team members are in sync with each other and work well together. This process, in turn, forms over a period of timeonce they get comfortable working and communicating with each other. Being respectful of employees’ work-life balance will naturally keep them for longer periods in your organisation, which is a great contributor in team building. Two co-workers can be excellent in bringing results once they know one another well enough and mutual trust develops between them. When two or more co-workers have been working together for a long time, the comfort level, unity and coordination between them are quite evident, which is exactly what any business head and manager should strive for!
